What are Analog Cameras?

Analog Cameras are known for being tried and true and typically use one of two main pipelines to transmit audio-visual information, wired cctv cables or a wireless transmitter used to connect to a receiver.

How it works: Image data is transmitted over a coaxial cable with the audio transmitted via basic copper wires. Simply put, the coaxial cable feed the transmission directly to the monitor or recorder. If the image needs to be seen in several different locations, wires can feed the signal to multiple monitors. The camera’s feed can also be routed to an image capture board on a computer to allow the audio-visual information to be viewed on a computer monitor. High resolution analog cameras can also be integrated into a digital system providing a highly cost effective and flexible alternative to traditional systems. This is extremely evident when a business has outgrown the existing security plan and wishes to upgrade their system using DVR technology.

How about IP Cameras?

In 1996, when network cameras were introduced to the market, the technology was not suitable for surveillance when compared to analog cameras. As with most technical advances, the network camera got better with time. The latest network cameras not only meet current industry demands, in some areas they exceed the operational capabilities of the analog camera. With IP network video security you have the freedom to be mobile, allowing you to monitor your home or business from anywhere in the world.

How it works: An IP Camera is a stand-alone device which allows you to view live, full motion video from anywhere in the world. IP Cameras can be used for surveillance of homes and businesses. With the ability to record live video to a remote location, IP Cameras allow you to make sure your recorded video is safe by storing it at a location that only you can access. With a higher resolution than any analog camera you can also pan, tilt and zoom in with clarity. Some models have highly integrated purpose driven hardware allowing them to excel in the utilization of motion detection, signal encryption, alarm management, power management, number plate recognition, counting people and image analysis. The ability to take on complicated tasks makes the IP cameras perfect for extensive intelligent surveillance systems. While the cost of the individual camera can be higher, overall, network cameras reduce management and equipment costs when compared to the expense of equipment and upkeep per channel in an analog system.
